FREE CLEFT LIP & PALATE SURGERY

The department of Plastic Surgery has been conducting clefts surgeries for the last three years. The department is headed by Dr. K.S. Krishna Kumar, who has extensive experience in both UK and USA for 10 years before starting his practice in Kerala. He has worked in major cleft centres in UK. He is also the only Keralite to have exit degree in Plastic Surgery (FRCS, Plastic Surgery), which implies the completion of western Plastic Surgery Training.

Cleft lip and palate is a very distressing condition for the both parents and children. In addition to the cosmetic deformity this includes major handicaps like speech, ear, dental and eating problems. We provide a comprehensive care for each of these problems.

We undertake the usual cleft surgeries like Cleft Lip Correction, Cleft Palate Corrections, Surgery for Speech problems, Secondary Correction of lip and Nasal deformities, Fistula closure, Alveolar Bone Graft etc.

In addition to this we provide supportive services like Orthodontic correction, Maxillo Facial Bony Correction, Endoscopic Evaluation of speech problems, ENT & Paediatric evaluation.

We are happy to announce that BMH has tied up with an international cleft charity based in New York named, “The Smile Train”. This will enable us to provide all cleft surgeries totally free of cost to the patients. The  Smile Train is an international children’s charity working with doctors and hospitals to eradicate the prevalence of cleft lips and cleft palates.  Under this program we have already carried out about 250 free surgeries in the past year and half

BMH is only one of 3 centers in Kerala and the only one in Malabar, approved for free treatment under the Smile Train Programme.
