Author Guidelines

The journal follows Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals (http://www.icmje.org).

Please download the Conflict of Interest Form from ICJME website, fill it and upload it as a supplementary file during submission.

Manuscript Submission: Manuscripts should be submitted online at:http://babymhospital.org/BMH_MJ/index.php/BMHMJ/login. You have to register first in order to submit a manuscript. Manuscripts should be accompanied by a covering letter stating that all authors have read the manuscript and contributed to the work. Contribution of each author may be stated. A scan copy of the statement signed by all authors to the effect that the material submitted has not been published elsewhere nor under consideration of publication should be uploaded as a supplementary file. If previously published material is being used for review articles, copies of letters granting permission from the original publisher should be provided. Name and email id of all authors should be entered in the online submission system. All manuscript related communications may be addressed only to the Section Editor. All emails regarding manuscripts should be copy communicated to all authors for confirmation.

Manuscript Preparation: Microsoft Word doc will be the preferred format for the manuscript. The figures and tables should be in JPEG/GIF format with 600 pixel width. They should be inserted in the manuscript at the appropriate places and not at the end of the manuscript. Suitable measures should be taken to conceal the identity, if possible and consent from the person must be provided before the image is published.

Contents of the manuscript should be arranged as follows - title page, abstract, text, references. Each of these components should be prepared as described below.

Title page:

Title should be brief and comprehensive. Include full names, academic degrees and affiliations of all authors. Sources of financial support and any possible conflict of interest should be mentioned for all authors. Full name, address, phone number and email of the corresponding author must be mentioned.

Abstract:

The abstract should be structured with the following headings - Background, Methods, Results and Conclusions. The abstract should not be longer than 250 words. The abstract should be followed by 3-6 key words. Structured abstracts are needed only for research articles. Other types of articles can have plain narrative abstracts.

Text:

The manuscript text should be organized into the following sections for research articles - Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion and Acknowledgments. Expand abbreviations at first mention with the abbreviation in parentheses.

References:

References in the text should be numbered by order of appearance. References should be formatted as shown below. Journal names should be abbreviated according to the style of index medicus. List upto 6 authors for each reference. If there are more than 6 authors, list the first 3, followed by et al.

Types of Articles: The journal accepts manuscripts in the following categories.

Research Articles:

Research articles are articles reporting research work which has not been published and should not be under consideration for publication elsewhere. In general, manuscripts should not exceed 5000 words (including abstract, references and figure legends). Upto 10 figures, 5 tables and 40 references are allowed.

Review Articles:

Reviews are usually commissioned by the editor. But unsolicited reviews on a topic of contemporary interest will also be considered. The length of the review article should not exceed 4000 words. An abstract of less than 250 words should be included. Number of references should be limited to 40.

Editorials:

Editorials are mostly written by the journal editors or section editors. But unsolicited editorials on topics of current interest will also be considered. Maximum number of words: 2000.

Case Reports:

Reports of interesting cases should be limited to less than 2500 words and upto 5 figures. Number of references and number of authors should not exceed 5.

Images:

Reports with a focus on interesting images can be presented with less than 500 words of narrative text. Only 2 images, 3 authors and 3 references are allowed.

Letters to the Editor:

Letters either with reference to an article published recently in the journal or on a topic of contemporary interest will be considered for publication. Letters should not exceed 500 words and 4 references.

Book Review:

Authors / publishers desiring to have their books reviewed should contact the editor.

Conference Announcements and Reports:

Single page conference announcements have to be sent to the editor at least two months prior to the conference dates. Reports of salient aspects of recent conferences may be written in less than 2000 words.
